(Per Press Association.) Wellington, ijJuly 8. In the House, after questions were disposed of, most of the afternoon was occupied with a debate on the motion of Sir R. Stont's to print Sir Walter Buller's petition, the Minister of Lands hotly opposing the motion, which was lost by 20 to 32. Early in the afternoon the Premier asked leave to withdraw the Old Age Pensions Bill, presented the previous night, and substitute a complete bill as the side notes were omitted from the first measure. Just before the Souse rose at 5.30 Mr Riccarton Russell gave notice to ask the reason why the Premier had substituted altogether a different measure to the one first introduced, and when the Cabinet had agreed to the amended measure. Mr Seddon explained the mistake had been made in sending an obsolete copy to the Governor, and was met with the remark be ought to have said so before. At 7.30 p.m Mr Pirani moved the second reading of the bill providing for judicial inquiries on oath into charges against the police and punish' inent for perjury committed therewith. The Minister of Lands and Mr Hogg strongly opposed the measure, but the second reading was carried by 32 to 25, the division list being— For the Bill — Allen, Buchanan, Buick, Button, Collins, Crowther, Duthie, Earnshaw, Fraser, Green, Houston, G. and W. Hutchison, Me Guire, Joyce, J. W. Kelly, Lang, Lewis, Maslin, Massey, Mitchelson, McNab, Montgomery, Newman, G. W. Bussell, G. J. Smith, O'Regan, Pirani, Stewart, Stout, Te Ao, R. Thompson. Against the Bill— Buddo, Cadman, Carncross, Carnell, Duncan, Flatman, Graham, Hall, Hall-Jones, Harris, Hogg, Larnach, Lawry, J. and R. MeRenzie, McLachlan, Meredith, Mills, Morrison, Parata, Pinkerton, Tanner, Willis. The second reading of Mr McNab's Divorce Bill was carried on the voices. Mr W. Hutchison's Bible in Schools Bill was rejected by 43 to 11. Dr Newmans Admission of Women to Parliament Amendment Bill was thrown out on its second reading by 24 to 22. The House rose at 12.30.
