Unseaworthy Vessels Enquiry,
-»- (Per Press Association.) Melbourne. This Day. The report of the Board set up at the instance of Mr Sangster, M.L.C., to enquire into allegations that vessels were allowed to leave the harbour in an unsea worthy condition, finds that the serious allegations were disproved. The members, state that they were not satisfied that the Wendouree was unsafe, although her condition showed signs of neglect. The statement that a surveyor was dismissed for declining to make a false report, they say, is untrue. Generally the Board found that Mr Sangster was right in his contention that some intercolonial steamers fall short of the standard of comfort and accommodation for seamen. The report says that the charges made throughout were permeated xather by a feeling of antagonism in the relations between the seamen and their employers than by any belief in misconduct or neglect on the part of the officers.
