«. (Per Press Association). Hobart, July 8. Parliament has been opened. The Governor's speech congratulated the colony on the brighter financial outlook, and stated that the revenue exceeded the Treasurer's estimate by several thousand pounds. Government did not intend to re-introduce the unimproved land tax, but would aek for power to assess property in the colony under three systems — annual value, capital, and half improved value. Heavy floods have been experienced in St. Leonard's district, and there have been several narrow escapes of losing life. One man is reported to be drowned. A woman named Horsley was found murdered near the tin mine at Derby. Her head was battered in, and she bad been thrown into a water race.
