At a meeting of the Southern Cross Society, the Domestic Servants Halfholiday Bill was adversely discussed, snd a resolution was moved fay Lady Stout and carried unanimously— Thst the Society, while approving of t the half-holiday for domestic servants^ consider that the Bill brought in by Mr Kelly is quite unworkable, and would not be beneficial for servants, and the majority of servants do not desire it. The Society declined to endorse the ; resolution passed at the Women's Convention, Christchurch, emphasis* 4ng the existence of sweating, as it had no absolute evidence that sweating ex* Isted. ■•: The following resolutions were car* , ried:— (l) Equal condition for di--aorce; (2) amendment of the system <£ charitable aid distribution, and that •women should seek election to Boards; , '(3^ against party government ancj in faWor of elective executive and referendum; (4) in favor of extending technical examination and maintaining the present system of secular and compulsory education ; (5) police reform ; k (6) removal of disabilities of women., km The meeting also agreed with the prin-' % ciple of old-age pensions ; and that y reform m the Upper House was nit- ' cessary. ■ j #
