Islanders Carried off by an Alligator.
(Per • Press Asspciatipnj SVcNEY, June 22. A sensational alligator story, verified by the resident missionary, comes r from Null Island, New Guinea. The missionary reports that the natiyes of the village where he resides are living in mortal fear of a monster alligator which lately took up its permanent quarters on the reef adjoining the missionary station, and three of their number have recently, fallen victims to the monster. Two young girls were disporting on a reef, and one jumped on the other's back, The alligator made » dash, and seizing both in his jaws, made off;^ The natives gave chase in their canoes, and after two hours' hunting the father of one of the girls managed to wrench the mutilated body of his child from the mouth of the monster. A few days later a party of natives were fishing from a canoe on the reef, when this alligator sprang at. them, overturned the boat, and made off with one of the oc cupants, whose body was found next day amongst the mangroves.
