Severe Weather in New South Wales.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, Jane 22. Heavy rain and intensely cold weather is being experienced in the coastal districts, while it is dirty and stormy at sea. The shipping has been driven to shelter. The heaviest frost and snow experienced in the southern and western highlands for many years has occurred, six to eighteen inches having fallen. Trees have been broken down bj the weight, and telegraphic communication with the south and with the other colonies has been blocked. A peculiar feature is that snow is accompanied by severe thunderstorms. The stock is suffering badly and a large number of animals are perishing. Many telegraph poles have been smashed by the weight of snow and the force of the wind. Miles of the line are down or buried. Both the south and western circuits are blocked beyond Lawson. The fall has been so heavy in the Blue Mountains that railway traffic has been much interrupted. Deep drifts had collected in the cuttings, and had to be removed to allow the trails to proceed. This Day. The weather is still wild, and very high seas are coming in from the Tasman Sea. As no previous warning was received it is supposed the depression arose seaward. A peculiarity is that the wind is strong in a westerly direction in Sydney, but a tumultuous sea is rolling in from the south-east.
