£fKOM OUR OWN COBBEBPONDBNT.I - The Pemberton Rifle Club held their first annual ball on the 12th. It was fairly well patronised.: Tbe :; iriufflc (^air supplied by Messrs Holmes, and Snellgrove. A quantity of ragi saturated with kerosene, was fired in one of the stalls,; but only cbaned thf wall before it burned onti ' r v fP^ ; ' On Saturday the Ruamne footballers met the Apiti team at Bangiwahia. There was some unnecessary roughtalay and talking. It resulted in; a; wiy|or Ruahine by 5 pointe to 8; There^was. some very Good play on both sides^ Tfie, visitors were afterwards Tenfert»i?iiß^j|^ < dinner at Mr Bielski's Accbmmotlation: House. Vaeleet • members to represent tiie new ridings in the Kiwitea County CouncU.' It wa«/ was attended. Mr J. D. McGregor was voted to the chair. He explained the works of the i Ratepayers' • Association since its formation; eigbtmontbs ago^chief of which were— Eepairs to , JUmboltbn road and forming new riding^tHus giving two more members. ■; The Secretary, Mr Fitton, explained they were bampeortf for lack of funds, and if assistance were not forthcoming, the Cbinnut^ wfbnld have to resign. A Bubscription was taken np in the room, and a committee formed to canvass for farther assistance. Mr T. Pemberton, for the Rangiwabia riding, and Mr Brewster; ; for tb« Hautapu, were selected as candidates lor the county election, both gentlemen having consented to stand. :'i■' ' .; : i v ' '
