The Bible in Public Schools.
"(Per Press Ais_odatibn.V.v Dunedin, June .16. At a pnblic meeting ucbhyened by ttefflXiJTJJ., the following resolution wjui carried :—" That this oaeeting, while thoroughly approving the bar tionai free • system of education, is of opinion that fche exclusion Tpf the Bible from the State- schools of the colony inflicts a - great wrong upon the youth of New Zealand* and tends to produce -results disastrousto tbe State. It is farther of opinion that the exclusion , ofthe Bible i is offensive to the majority of the .^pie of the land, and it therefore calls upon the Government either to amend the present Education Act so M^to 1 allow of the' daily reading of the Bible in public., school .with the provision of a cooTCioueo clause, or to submit tbe question to the house- ■' holders of the colony at the next electwn of school committees."
