Some surprise was expressed in Wellington yesterday that no message had been received from Sydney with respect to the identification of the man supposed to be Kirby. The Hauroto arrived in Sydney some time on Sunday, so there had been plenty of time for the police who went from here to bring him back to satisfy themselves that the Sydney police had got the right man. It is said that some of the betting fraternity were offering long odds on Sunday and yesterday that it was not Kirby that had been arrested. — Times.
