The Longburn Freezing Works were offered at auction this afternoon, and bought in on behalf of the mortgagees who were the only bidders, for the nomiual sum of £100. Returns from 46 of the principal telegraph offices for the period from Bth to 13th June inclusive, give the following results : — Ordinary telegrams 23,808, value £1054 ; urgent telegrams 1530, value £143. Compared with business done at the same offices during the period of the Ist to 7th May, exclusive of Sunday, there is an increase in the number of ordinary telegrams of 10 per cent, and an increase of 64 per cent in the number of urgent telegrams. The total revenue from both ordinary and urgent telegrams decreased by one per cent., compared with the May period. Upwards of £150 has been subscribed as the result of a two days' canvas for the Band contest to be held here daring the exhibition. Dunedin June 15. Robert Geoghan, on inmate of the Seacliff Asylum from Southland, who escaped from that institution yesterday, huug himself in the bush.
