Railway Accident in New South Wales.
J (Per Press Association.) 1 Sydney, June 15. A serious accident occurred on the Cooma railway early this morning, the scene of the accident being near Goleburn, about 135 miles S.S.W. of Sydney. ! It was pitch dark early in the morning when a mixed train, consisting of a large number ot trucks and two carriages containing twenty passengers, became j partially derailed. The locomotive and and several of tlie trucks rolled over the J shallow embankment, but fortunately the rear portion of the the train, which included passengers' carriages, remained on the track. The driver, McGregor, was badly scalded along the back by the escaping steam. Fireman Morris had a most miraculous escape as he was imprisoned by the over-turned trucks aud debris. They had to be cut away before he could be released. He did, not however, escape scathless, as he received a slight scalding and a few bruises. Although the passengers sustained a shock none were seriously injured, but there was considerable damage to the rolling stock. The cause of the Cooma railway accident is attributed to a firebox collapsing. Complete derailment was only averted by the instant acting of the Westinehouse brake.
