The Kirby Case.

As Ex-Detective Kirby was an import ant witness in several cases coming on at 'the sitting of the Supreme Court, and he cannot arrive in time, application will bs made to have his evidence in tbe Lower Court admitted. Sydney, This Day. The officers oitbe Talune consider Kirby must bave escaped from the hold of the vessel whilst tbe batch was removed for tbe mails to be taken on deck as the vessel was proceeding up Sydney harbour, and tbat he escaped asbore when the ship berthed. They say two women recognised Kirby as he was walking in the street in Sidney, and after following him gave information to a clerk in the Union Company's office. The latter proceeded to the wharf jand informed the police, who then effected Kirby 's arrest. _At no time during tbe voyage was Kirby on deck.
