Ireland and Home Rule.
During the course of an interview with Sir Maurice O'Rorke, on his return from a visit to the Old Connty,' he told a rep- 4 , resentative of tWjf Anckl«Bd-Btar, Inif * | touching on Ireland-and Home Bole, that it was lamentable to seet he state ' of - di»v cord prevailing amongst the' 'Irish mem. 1 bers, who are split into three parties, Par* ' nellites, Healyites and Dillomtea.^andf they seemed, more and more anxious t<£injure one another than, to promote thaw* •« terests of their country. There, was mbm -- hopes that at a convention of Irishmfen to'; be held in Dublin in Septemßbr* ianv." those disunited and conflicting parties would be welded into one Harmonious arid > solid whole. The general aspect ' o£ Ire* land was deplorable. A great part of the ' country was reduced to a wilderness ; Whole villages have completely r disap- > peated and only a few ruins were' left to show where they^once existed. The people seemed t hopeless, all the/ young and spirited population leaving the country, and' only the old and feeble re- ' tuaining. There was, however, no acute < distress amongst these. " The mmt thriving institution I saw," said Sir Maurice, with a smiled " was. Guinness' brewery in Dublin, which I spent two or three hours looking over." Dnblin, "> itself, he says appears stationary, though - Trinity College is one of tbo flourishing^ institutions in that city.
