A Business Man Missing.
HIS CREDITORS LEFT LAMENTING. Featherston, June 6. It is not often that we get much in the way of excitement here, but during the past week we have been enlivened by the disappearance of Ernest Louis, a well known storekeeper of this town, who went to Wellington ostensibly to be married. Somehow suspicions were aroused, and then it was discovered that the stock in his shop was not so large as had been supposed. The matter \ras placed in the hands of the Official Assignee, and it was then found that the cash-book had been interfered with, so that it will be hard to know who was in debted to him. Usually when he went to town Mr Louis left two bags at the Bank of Australasia. These were supposed to contain watches and jewellery, for besides being a draper he carried on business as a watchmaker and jeweller. On these bags being opened by the Official Assignee's representative they were feund to contain a lot of brummagem jewellery not worth having. It is thought the delinquent has gone to Sydney. A few locally have been bitten, but I understand the largest losses are in Wellington. — Times.
