Supreme Court Sittings-

o (Per Press Association) Wellington, Jane 3. The Court was occupied all day vita the trial of Andrew Suttie, commercial traveller, who was indicted on a charge of having at Carterton made a declaration before two Justices of the Peace that he saw drinking, dice-throwing, and other irregularities going on in two hotels in Garterton during prohibited hours, and a constable drinking at both houses. The case has already been before the public in various forms. The Justices brought Suttie's allegations as to the constable and publicans before the local Licensing Committee, and as a result of what transpired at that meeting prosecutions were instituted against the licensees of the two hotels concerned. The cases were dismissed, and a warrant issued for the apprehension of Suttie, who had by this time left the colony. He was eventually arrested in Sydney, and the case, which had not finished when the Court rose for the day, will be concluded -to-morrow. This Day. Suttie was acquitted on a charge of making a false declaration before two Justices at Carterton. All the witnesses examined to-day proved at the time of | making the declaration the accused was in such a condition that he was not aware what he was doing and by the direction of the Chief Justice, the jury, without leaving the box, returned a verdict of not guilty.
