The Bottle License Question.
(Per Press Association.) Greyjiouth, This Day. ' The Grey Licensing Bench granted 1 applications for bottle licenses, holding that the Act of 1895 was contradictory and only precluded the issue of new licenses. The Bench further relied upon subsection 6 of clause 12, which gave licensees the right to two successive renewals. It is understood that the Prohibitionists contemplate appealing to the Supreme r Court. [ Dunedin, June 4. By five to four the Tuapeka Licensing Committee regretfullyidecided there was i no option but to issue bottle licenses. i Nelson, June 4. , At the Licensing Committee meeting, Mr Fell appeared on behalf of a number of Temperance people and objected to the renewal of bottle licenses. The Chairman said it was clear by the Act of 1893 that holders had the right of renewals, and this was not taken away by [ the Act of 1895, in which the word ' new ' s was given no legal definition. They had taken a common sense meaning ; that j meant one not previously existing; therefore they granted the licenses. Renewals were granted in all other cases, but an application for an accommodation license at Wangamoa was refused, there being no power to grant a new license.
