Destructive Fire at Auckland.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, June 2, A fire destroyed the brick block in Queen-street known as Hewin's buildings containing the business premises of Messrs F. E. Eretschmar and Company, grocers ; C. B. Thorne, umbrella maker ; J. E. Murray, fruiterer ; S. Sutherland, hairdresser ; E. Cash, tailor ; and Mr Gregory, photographer. The fire originated in Mr Kretscbmar's cellar. The insurances are : — Kretschmar'e, Alliance, L 100 0; Sutherland, North German, L 10 0; Cash, New Zealand, LIOO-; Gregory, Royal, Ll5O. Thorne and Murray wero uninsured. The block belonged to the estate of the kte Mr Hawin.
