The Minister of Lands at Auckland.
[Per Press Association. Auckland, May 30. The Hon J. McKenzie addressed a crowded audience to night in the Opera House. Tbe Mayor presided, Mr McKenzie, on coming forward was received with cheers. He justified the appoint* ment of Mr Reeves as Agent-General and Sir P. Buckley as Judge, and denied that Mr Seddon appointed himself a member of the Realisation Board. It was desired by Government that he (Hon Mr McKenzie) should be appointed to the position, bnt he declined, and the Government considered it necessary one member of thp Cabinet should be on the Board to protect the interests of the colony. Under his land administration for five years ended Marph last qndcr all systems 114,5(10 selectors took up land during that period, that was leavI ing but 511 pastoral tenants. He 'advocated State lire insurance. The Government would leave' national prohibition to be settled by a tbree-fifblis maiority. Mr McKonjrie spoke for two and a half hours.
