New Zealand Scullers in Australia.
CHAMPIONSHIP RACE TO BE ROWED TO-DAY. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, May 21. Tbe New Zealand fours practically put in their final practice work this afternoon, which was confined entirely to starting, and the men go away in very nice style. McCormick, too, was out in tbe afternoon, and in company with Neilson did easy work. The four-oared race will be rowed about 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, and the sculls at 4 p.m. The New Zealand crew on their more recent form have a sight call in the pride of position in the betting. This Day. Considerable dissatisfaction exists in aquatic circles regarding the definition of " amateur" as adopted by the Rowing Conference on the ground that it will exclude New Zealand, as the championship regatta prizes in that colony are cash which, however, is paid into the funds of the Club, and is not received by the competitors. The definition accepted by the conference is, so far, only a recommendation, and the probability is that another meeting of delegates will be held when a proviso may be added covering the New Zealand case.
