Feilding Harmonic Society.

The first meeting of the above Society was held in the Foresters' Hall last eveuing, when there was a good attendance, including several new members. The President (the Rev. Innes Jones) introdnced the proposed conductor (Mr Dumaresq), who was elected to fill that office, ' ;: Miss Giesen was elected pianist. The following committee was appointed : — Mrs Macarthur, Misses. Giesen and Diamond, and Messrs Spence, Greenwood, Simpson, Johnston, and the President, Conductor, and Secretary (ex officio). After the business of the meeting was concluded several gems were sung, also some of the choruses of the "Ancient Mariner" — an exceedingly pretty cantata, which should go very well after a few practices. At the conclusion of the pvaoticea committee meeting was held, at which it was decided to give two concerts daring the season, the first to be miscellaneous and the second composed of the above-mentioned cantataIt was also decided that members be allowed to purchase copies of the said cantata from the Society if they wish. The Secretary was instructed to procure an additional two dozen copies for the use of the Society. The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded a very successful meeting.
