Important to Shearers.
A BOGUiS ADVERTISEMENT. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, May 19. The Inspector General of the New South Wales police has cabled to the polica here requesting them to warn shearers against the advertisement of a certain company in Sydney appearing in a number of New Zealand newspapers, inviting applications for New Zealand men for work in New South Wales and Queensland sheds. Tbe advertisement asks that references bo forwarded with the usual deposit of £1 and the Sydney officer eoatea tbat no such company as advertised exists. fin connection with the above we may be permitted to state that the advertisement referred to was forwarded to the Star office. Having some doubts as to its bona fides we did not publish it, bnt sent it to the Secretary of Labor, Mr Tregear, and received the following reply dated tbe 13th instant : •• Please accept warm thanks for enclosing to me the Australian letters sent with yours of the 12ch instant. The Government does not see its way to directly interfere in tbe matter. I am, however, communicating with the Shearers' Union of New Zealand and wish to ascertain their views on the subject. Edward Tregear, Secretary for Labor."]
