The Transvaal Crisis.
o (Per Press Association.) Capetown, May 11. A petition is being signed in Bnluwayo asking that Rhodes be retained in the Chartered Copmany. The Dutch press has adopted a more friendl3 r tone, but the Berlin press denounce Mr Charuberlam for defending Mr Rhodes. London, May 11. Mr Asquith, speaking at Trowbridge, said recent disclosures had strained the British claim to paramount power in South Africa. He regretted the departure from a strong and consistent line of policy, and prompt enquiry was demanded.
