The Licensing Law.

(Per Press Association.) ' Dunedin, May 7. # On the strength of legal opinion it is | believed all holders of bottle licenses in- ; tend to apply for renewals at the next 1 meeting of the Licensing Committees, and if the interpretation placed on the Act is correct, tha Bench appears to have no option but to grant them. The Act pro* videe that no " new " bottle licenses shall be granted, and that all " such " licenses | in force shall continue till the 30th June j next ensuing. Legal opinion is to the ef- ' feet that " new " refers to those granted since 1881 when the Act came into force, but that those in existence before come under sub-section 6 of section 12 of the Act, 1893, and that holders have a right to renewal unless endorsed.
