A Goal Ship on Fire.

(Per Press Association.) Sydney, This Day. The ship Ellen A. Reid, from Newcastle to Manila, with SOOO tons of coal, was towed into Sydney with her cargo on tire. The outbreak took place between the decks under the forward house and was discovered when the ship was 75 miles from land. It had then a good hold, and a course was shaped for Port Stephen. Ail the air inlets were blocked and holes cut in the deck, through which large quantities of water were poured. On reaching Port Stephens the fire was sufficiently subdued to allow of the vessel being towed here, when the fire was extinguished. The hold was badly scorched and cargo damaged. This is another of the many recent cases of the heating of cargoes by spontaneous combustion.
