Social at Birmingham.
«. A social was held in the Birmingham Wesleyan Church last evening to welcome the Rev Mr Peryman, who was lately appointed to take charge of the Kiwitea circuit. There was a very fair attendance. The programme was contributed to as follows : — Song, Miss Laing, " The Better Land, ".with viola obligato by Mr Grace ; Mr Grace sang " The Diver " and " Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep " ; Mrs D. .Mcßeth sang " Ora Pro Nobis," which was encored, a verse being repeated : Mrs Palmer sang the " Holy City," which was, also, loudly applauded. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Palmer and Mrs H. Fowler. Two choruses were sang by the choir. Addresses of welcome were given by Mr Sinclair (the chairman), Mr G. Anyon, and Mr H. Tolly (junr). Mr Peryman gave a short address in reply to the chairman's remarks. During an interval light refreshments were handed round to those present by the ladies of the congregation. The social terminated, a very pleasant evening having been spent, after a vote of thanks had been accorded to those ladies who had provided Ihe refreshments. *
