Sydney, This Day. The Hon Mr Davis and Mr Humphreys have been elected directors of the Mutual Life Assurance of Australia. Speaking at Broken Hill, the Hon. Mr Reid, referring to women's vote in South Australia, said he favoured female suffrage, but there was no chance of the Bill comiug down this session. He supported the deciding question by the referendum system. Hobart, April 29. Arrived — Tainui, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, from London via the Cape. She sails at 8 a.m., to-morrow for Wellington. The Tainui has ninety nine passengers for Australian ports and thirty-six for N.Z. Ahelaide, This Day. Tho scrutiny of the referendum votes is talcing a long time. So far 15 districts are completed and show 29,432 in favor of tlie present system of education. 9,260 against ; 10,02,3 in favor of Bible readiug in schools, 18,978 agaiust ; 6790 in favor of capitation to denominational 23,606 against.
