Feilding School Committee.

o The retiring committee met last evening prior to the meeting of householders. Present — Messrs W. Carthew, A. W. Parker, W.G. Haybittle, J. Gould, J. Taylor, W. G. Shearer and R. J. Thompson. Mr Carthew occupied the chair. Correspondence was received' and dealt with as follows : — '' From Inspector Biodon, stating -the school would be examined on May 4th and sth. From Messrs H. Worsfold and C. Bray : (junior), apologies for non- attendance. — Accepted. From N. Friberg, head master Colyton school, with reference tp late school excursion to Wanganui and stating that the tea on the up-river steamer cost them 30s and asking if this committee would contribute Ids, some of the children attending the FeUding school having taken advantage of tbe excursion up the river. Resolved, Tbat this committee forward to Mr Friberg 10s as part- of cost of supplying tea to the children. Mr Towler waited on the school committee and complained that Mr Stewart, the assistant master, had caned his boy witb undue severity, and thought such '. punishment was ill-treatment. He wished the committee to impress on the. teachers tbat tbey should treat children in such a manner tbat they would noir dread going to school. The chairman informed him tbat if be would put his complaint into writing tbe committee would enquire into it. Mr Towler replied that he did not wish to lodge a formal complaint and after . thanking the committee for hearing him withdrew. The meeting then adjourned.
