Wanganui Education Board. The monthly meeting of the above was
continued yegterday. Present — Messrs Carson (chairman), Sanson, Bobbins, Baker, Fry, Hurley, Lethbndge, Fred. Pimm, M.H.R., and" Rev. Mr Ross.' Mr Ehlein waited on the Board in reference to the proposed school at Palmers and explained that the building required by the Board would cost more than the residents could afford. It was decided to supply a modified plan for a school to cost about £50. The carpenter's report showed that the cost of the work done in this part of the district wo 8 :— Stoney Creek, L29 ; Kelvin Grove LIOO 6s ; College-street, L 2 16s ; Knimngsi, L4B 7s. Ruahine — Messrs Lethbridga and Fry were requested to visit Ruahine, beyond Rangiwahi>i, and report on the proposed school. The tenders received were too hi«h. Tenders nccepted — Mangawhero W. Lloyd. L 157 £3= ; Rangiwahia, (removal) "W. McKrnnon, LSO ; Rewa, Hubner, Bros., LIG4 10s. Pmiki School -Rev. Mr "Williams' application for inspection of school by Board's inspector granted. Pcrnberton — School fund to be divided between Rangiwahia and Beef Creek. Hiwinui Enlargement of ecbool held over. Feilding — From Annie L. Thompson, applying for pupil teachership ; no vacancy. Plan of District — Messrs Sanson, Frj T , Piraui and Hurley were appointed a committee to consider the question of providing a plan of the district. Pupil-teachers— On Mr Pirani's motion, seconded by Mr Fry. it was decided to ask pupil teachers to state what locality they would prefer in case the Board found it necessary to transfer them at any tiaie to another school.- Another motion by Mr Pirani to pay all pupil teachers employed more than two miles from their homes the usual lodging allowance, was held over till next meeting. Mr Hurley moved, and Mr Leth bridge seconded, That the executive committee consist of Messrs Carson and Baker. — Mr Pirani opposed the setting up of an executive asillegal and unnecessary, and urged that the chairman could do all that was necessary between meetings, allowing the Board itself to take the responsibility of the education work. He also objected to any committee passing accounts that should come before the Board. — Mr Sanson strongly upheld Mr Pirani's views and held that there was no necessity for an executive. — Messrs Baker and Carson defended the actions of the executive in the past, and pointed out that it was desirable that as little responsibility as possible should rest on the Board's officers. — Mr Hurley, in reply, said that although the executive committee had at times taken too much upon itself, it was necessary to have a committee of the sort. — The motion was carried, Messrs Leth bridge, Hurley, Baker, Carsons and Robins voting for it, and Messrs Fry, Pirani and Sanson voting against. On the motion of Mr Baker, seconded by Mr Fry, it was decided that Messrs Robbins and Fry be a committee to go into inspectors' and teachers' reports before each meeting. — Mr Pirani was proposed, but declined to stand.
