(Per Press Association). Nelson, April 10. Fredk. Mi Hard, a married man, a resident of Waimea West, was accidentally drowned while crossing the Maitai river on horseback last night. Auckland, April 10. The monthly return of the Wailri mine for the four weeks ending 4th inst. is 2220 tons of ore crushed and treated for a return of bullion valued at £9208, on an average nearly £4 8s per ton. Hon Cadmau, leaves for Wellington on Monday. He visited Major Harris, M.H.R., who is slowly recovering from his recent accident. By the capsizing of a boat at Keriken, a Maori boy named Tipeno, two and a half years, has been drowned. An old Maori, Heni Matakuri, made a gallant effort to save him. Mr Patrick Marshall, of Lincoln College, Gliristcburch, is the successful candidate for the Science Mastership of the Auckland Grammer School, and Mr J. Hight, of Christchurch, is the successful candidate for the English and Commercial Mastership. Hawera, This Day. The Borough Council has passed a resolution in favour of a company being empowered to supply the town with gas. Masterton, April 10. The Wairarapa North County Council has amended its by laws so as to pro vide for a license fee of £25 for each wacon carrying timber on the county roads to the extent of three tons and over. Dunedin, April 10. An eight-roomed house, owned by Mr G. Esther and occupied by Mrs Walls, boardinghouse-keeper, was totnlly destroyed by fire at midnight. The house was insured for £600 in the New Zealand Office. The Taieri County Council to-day gave khe Cifcy Council permission to erect the abbatoir on a new site selected in the county. The weather has again turned wet, drizzling rain from the N.E. having fallen throughout the day and evening. TniAitu, April 10. Mr Flatmau, M.H.R., addressed his constituents at Temuka last night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence by a small show of hands. He spoke as a strong supporter^of Ministers, whose land policy alone entitled them to retain office. Levin, April 10. The case in regard to the Ngatirakawa claims was continued before the Horowhenua Commission. Mr Nicholson's examination finished at noon. Mr Stevens, M.H.R., was examined, and Heni Te Rei was then called, bis evidence lasting till after the midday adjournment.
