The Matabele Rising.
(Per Press Association) London, April 1. Mr Rhodr-s is on his way to Bulawayo. It is feared at the Cape that he may run some danger in gotling there. Khiuna has offered assistance against the Matabeles. Capetown, April 3. Mr Cecil Rhodes attributes the rising to the premature arming of the native police. .Sir Hercules Robinson thanked President Kruger for the offer of assistance, bnt stated thafc the Imperial forces would be sufficient to cope with the insurgents. Gifford has formed a force numbering two thousand. Olimo, the instigator of tho rising, has proclaimed himself king. j Two thousand additional natives are ] entrenched at Matappo. The British are forming columns for the purpose of sweeping the hills. A Matabclo force attacked a small relief party and after a desperate struggle killed the party capturing 3000 rounds of ammunition and thirty rifles. Subsequently a patrol party encountered the natives defeated and killed thirty of them. The Natives fought with assegais and the struggle was hand to hand. The total native loss was over a hundred. Bucharest, April 3. The newspapers here assert that Bulgaria has promised Russia that iv the event of war it wiil cede* her Varna and Burgha-i and mobilise the arming afc Ph inula. St. PioTKiiHiiuno, April 3. - The Norvo Kczman states Russia has abandoned tho idea of crossing the Balkans to reach the Bosphorus but will increase the strength of the Black Sea fleet.
