A match was played at Feilding on Saturday last between teams representing the Manawatu and Bush (Woodville-Pahiatua-Hawera) Unions, and resulted in a win for the former by three wickets after a very interesting game. The Bush Union had not their full representative team, while Manawatu were without the services of W. and J. Entwisle. However, one of the finest games of the, season was witnessed by a fair number of persons. The Bush team batted first and at the luncheon adjournment bad only lost three wickets for 59 runs, but on resuming the home team were more successful and succeeded in disposing of their opponents for an additional 36 runs, making the total 95, the top scorer being Britland with 43, Udy and Phillpotts, with 15 and 13 respectively, being the only other players to reach double figures. Manawatu followed and the runs came slowly at first, seven wickets being down for 35 runs, but Tompkins made a successful stand and had put 25 runs to his credit before being caught. The innings closed for 78 runs, or 17 behind the Bush team, who again faced the bowling. A " rot " set in at once and the visitors were all disposed of for 26 runs, the last four men in making nothing. Gait, with 11, was the only player to reach double figures, the majority being disposed of for nothing. The day was wearing on when Manawatu faced the bowling for the second innings, it being scarcely an hour from the time for drawing the stumps and they had to get 44 runs to win. With this knowledge the players went to the wickets determined to make the required number of runs or get beaten on the scores, for the Bush team would win on the first innings, if Manawatu didn't make 44 runs before time was called. 4s the score gradually crept up the excitement amongst the spectators became intense and each hit was applauded until the winning bit, which was cheered, and the game ended in favor of Manawatu by three wickets.
