Manawatu County Council.
The monthly meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers, Sanson, on 11th March. Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), Hammond, Wilson, Masters, Strang, Taylor, and Robinson. Inward correspondence was read as follows: From — John Miller, asking for a transfer of slaughter license for for section 264, Awahuri, to John Collingweod. J. T. Hannabey, re transfer of sections to T. S. Drake. B. and J. Ferret, re cleaning drain on Speedy's line. Cash and Cohen, re title to road line. Sluggish River Drainage Board, re survey on Main Drain road. Land and Income Department, re subsidy. Rangitikei County Council, re repair of bridge at Bulls. CH. Tarrant. re section for library Hall at Awahuri. W. Stewart, re payment for selling; tram. A. Jar dine, re deputation to meet Commissioner on proposed extension of tram. J. V. Burr, re new slaughtering license. A. E. Bull, re lease of gravel pit. The following resolutions were passed : — That the transfer of slaughtering license from John Miller to John Collingwood be made when the necessary transfer fee be paid, and that John Burr be granted a license for slaughtering on section 56 B, Motoa, near Foxton. That the name of T. S. Drake be placed in the rate book for sections 245 and 240, Campbelltown, instead of J. A Hannabey. That the Council have no objection to the request of the Awahuri Library Committee being granted portion of the Square for Library purposes, but as the reserve is vested in the Crown the Council has no jurisdiction over it. That Mr S. Saxon be appointed\ registrar of dogs for the Manawatu s County for the year 1896, and that the registration office be the County office, Sanson. That in the event of any further money being spent upon Taylor's line, the cost be debited to the Carnarvon riding until the amount of half the cost of the metalling spent out of loan by the Sandon riding be wiped off. Resolved, That the Manawatu Council agree to allow the Sluggish River Board to put the embankment on 6ft of the road, as per plan sent. Resolved, That tenders be called for three-quarters of a mile of formation on the Main Drain road. Resolved, That a copy of the overseer's estimates ot work on Tompkin'a line be sent to the petitioners with a recommendation that they take the necessary steps to have a special rating district formed to borrow the sum of .£2OO, as with the present income of the riding the Council is quite unable to carry out the work at present. Resolved, That this Council will not agree to the proposal of the poundkeeper (Hinks) re new pound. Resolved, That the following tenders be accepted : — Bulls, Sandon, SandonAwahuri roads, R. L. Henderson, 2s 8d per yard ; Taipo" Awahuri road, R. L. Henderson, 3s 3d yard; Fagan'sWilson's road, R. L. Henderson, 2s 6d yard ; Foxton-Shannon road, Carter Bros., 5s 6d yard ; Hammond's and Rowe's roads, A. Forsaith, 44s 6d per chain ; Eopany road, G. Goodwin and Co., 6s per chain ; Tompkin's road, M. Boyle, 6s 5d chain ; Main Drain road, J. Wittington, 6s 9d per chain. Resolved, That a Committee consisting of Crs Hammond, Master, Taylor, and Ransom meet on Monday, 30th March, at 2 o'clock to pass accounts.
