Messrs Cribb and Mac Donald Paterson, two Legislative Councillors, resign in order to contest seats in the Lower House at the general election. The Japanese Consul for Queensland has arrived. He is hopeful of instituting a largo wool trade with Japan. He ridicules the idea that Japan would encourage immigration to Queensland, and says if any Japanese come to the colony they will only do so under favourable contracts. Melbourne, March 11. The Premier has instructed the Agent General to support the Bill legalising colonial marri.ages with deceased wives' sisters. The South Australian Governhas given similar instructions.
