AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN v. DISCONSOLATES.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, March 7. There was fine weather for the cricket match, and 27,000 people were present. The wicket played well. With four wickets down for 166, the Representatives resumed batting. Donnan increased his score by 27, and Gregory his by 22, but the others failed to make any stand, the innings closing for 230, or 113 ahead of the Disconsolates. Following are the scores : — Representatives, Ist innings. — Donnan 88, Darling 2, G. Giffen 0, Iredale 40, £L Troth Gregory 40, Graham 10, Eady 4, Jones 3, Johns 0, McKibbin (not out) 1, sundries 12. Total, 230. Turner took 3 wickets for 48, A. Trott 3 for 58, Conningham 2 for 45, Howell 1 for 44, McLeod none for 23. Being 118 to the bad, the Disconsolates wenb in for their second innings and made an excellent stand, the deficit being wiped off for the loss of two wickets. Then Hill and McLeod become associated and hit both fast and slow bowling all over the field. The scores are — Disconsolates, 2nd innings. — Lyons 9, Bruce 38, Hill 74, McLeod (not out) 64, sundries 11. Three wickets for 196.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, March 6. There was heavy scoring in the President Cup competition yesterday. Lancaster Park A team scored 428 against Midland No. 2, W. Raphael carrying his bat through the innings for 298. This score is the New Zealand record for an individual innings, and breaks the record for a number of years which was made by C. A. Strange with 220. In another President's Cup match the record for cup matches was beaten, and the New Zealand record closely approached by the United team scoring 478 against the High School's second team. In this match Lambie scored 149 and then retired. For Lancaster Park B* team Weir scored 102 and then retired.
