REPLY TO MR HAYBITTLE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As Mr Greenwood's reply to Mr R. F. Haybittle left some important points untouched, perhaps you will kindly allow me a little more space. From our kpowledge of Mr Isitt, we think it very doubtful that Mr Haybittle has correctly reported his interview wilh that gentleman. Even if he has, Mr Haybittle has repeated insulting language towards, at least, seventy-five per cent, of the ladies and gentlemen of Feilding. We leave him to judge of the wisdom of such a course. When temperance work is looked at as solely for the good of the community at large, that total abstainers are themselves perfectly safe from the ravages of the drink traffic, and that, consequently, the object is essentially an unselfish one, have not temperance workers the right to accept help of any sort from all who are willing to give it ? However, it is well known to many phap Mr Haybittle is better than his doctrine, and I hope he will have seen by this time that his letter was a mistake. All philanthropic work must be carried on b} r sacrifice, professional, and otherwise—and sorry will it be for the person or the community who has nothing to give or do for the well being of their fellows. The Baud of Hope movement being entirely for the welfare of the children, should have sympathy and support from all, which is the case with yery few exceptions indeed. T am, etc., ' Sympathiser.
