Cabinet Meetings.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 18. The Cabinet business yesterday was confined purely to departmental business and this morning defence matters were under discussion. In connection with cadets in public service joining the volunteer service, the Minister for Defence states the intention is that all cadets in the service shall, on attaining the age of eighteen, be compelled to enter a volunteer company for a period of three years. Mr Seddon points out that it has come to his knowledge that private employers have granted facilities to their employes, who are members of volunteer corps to attend parades, camps, etc., and instruction is to ba issued to the heads of all branches of the service that in future the volunteer movement is to be facilitated in every possible manner. Further Cabinet meetings were held this afternoon and evening. The Hon. Mr Ward leaves for the South to-morrow. It is probable that the Governor and Mr Carroll will not start for the Urewera country until Thursday.
