Fire in Wellington.
BRITANNIA HOTEL GUTTED. NARROW ESCAPE OF OCCUPANTS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. A fire broke out at 4.30 a.m. in the Britannia Hotel, Willis Street. The flames spread rapidly. The whole building was gutted and the contents destroyed. The fire originated in the bar. The occupants had only time to ea&ap<? >,n their night clothes. The bnUdiag.'bsvged J>y J, Dnff formerly a cabinet maker, w£s insured iov £}QQQ in the New Zealand. R. Reid Hcerisee and wife escaped by jumping from a bed.room window. Both were shaken, bnt nothing serious. The other occupants escaped by the fire escape in the rear of iho Wilding. The earthenware stock of Edwavu Anderson, on the northern side slightly ''damaged by the smoke. The origin of the fire is unknown* -
