(Per Press Association). Auckland, February 9. A company has been formed at Paeroa to prospect the King Country. Government will give permission and protection over several blocks. Funds will be provided by a Paeroa-Harmlton syndicate. The natives at Lake Rotorua have been notified that if they persist in netting trout they will be prosecuted. Bush fires at Opunaki swept down to the township. At one time the buildings along the railway line were in great danger, but the line and buildings ings were saved by great exertions, also the tram line and bridge. The Kauri Timber Company has sustained some loss. Wellington, February 11. The Opera House Company to-day carried a resolution to reduce the paid up capital not represented by available assets to the extent of ;£1 10s per share. The return picnic by Europeans in response to that of the natives in celebration of the settlement of the Wairarapa Lake difficulty was most successful. The Premier, Hon. Mr Carroll, and several members of Parliament and a large number of both natives and European settlers were present. Napier, This Day. Dr J. Leahy, superintendent of the Sydney Childrens Hospital, has been appointed resident medical officer of the papier Hospital, vice Dr Sweet, resigned. Chrjstphukc^, February 11. The roll for the Christehuvch election on Thursday contains 17,559 names.
