(Per Press Association.) Chmstchxjkch, Feb. 8. The first day's racing of the International Cycling meeting, promoted by the Cbristchurch Cycling Clnb, took place at Lancaster Park to-day. Over 3000 people attended and the Premier was present. The results of the principal events were : — Half-mile Handicap, open— W. Martin (America), scratch, 1 ; H. Urn, Christchurch, 65yds, 2; S. Cleaver, Ashburton, 95yds, 3. A splendid race. Won by four feet, a half wheel between second and third. Time, lmin 8 l-sth sees. H. J. Pither, Australia, scratch, won the second heat, beating Martin by 10yds in lmin 6 4 -sth sees, which establishes a New Zealand record. Pither did not start in the final. Harris England, scratch, was unplaced in his heat. Two-mile Bicycle Handicap, second class— P. Dunn, Christchurch. scratch, 1; A. Dey, Dunedin, 55yds, 2; F. W. Chainey, Christchurch, scratch, 8. Won by half a wheel. Time smin 8 4-sth sees. Five-mile Scratch Test Race; Ist prize, 10 sovs.— H. J. Pither, Australia, 1; W. Martin, America, 2 ; A.W.Harris, England, 3. J. Boyd, T. Clarkson, A. R. Barker, P. Dunn, F. W. Chainey (Christchurch), and A. E. Hobbs (Manawatu) also started. Won by half a length, the same distance between second and third, Barker close up. Time, 13mins losecs. Two mile New Zealand Wheel Race, Handicap, 20 soys.— P. Dunn, Christchurch, 110 yds, 1; A. Dey, Dunedin, 165 yds, 2 ; J. 1. Andrews, Aghburton, 210 yds, 3. Among the starters were Harris, Martin and Pither, scratch. Won by ten yards in 4mins 56secs. One-mile Handicap, open — W. Martin, America, scratch, 1 ; A. R. Barker, Christchurch, scratch, 2 ; A Dey, Dunedin, 100 yds, 3. Won by 2yds. Time, 2min 21 15-th sees. Pither attempted to lower the twomile record of 4mins 46 2-6 th sees, held by J. W. Jones, Pioneer, Christchurch. He did it in 4mins 46 4- sth sees.
