Medical Congress.
(Per Press Association.) Denedin, February 4. The Medical Congress on meeting to,day divided into sections. Dr O'Hara.. of Melbourne, president of the surgical section, read his presidential Address, in which, be dealt with the various branches of surgery. He referred to the introduction of serotherapy and the successful results up to date. It might not be specific but it had given marvellous results. He taeßtiooed thai in epidemic diphtheria he had performed tracheotomy in 52 cases, each cf which proved fatal. Experience strengthens the theory that cancer was infectious, but more proof was wanted. Dr Grace said he had never seen a successful case of true diptheria, bat he liad succeeded in seven or eight cases jut of thirty. Papers were then read and discussed. Dr Hay ward read Dr Lendon's adIrcss in the section of medicine in public icalth section. Four papers were read, me by Dr Chappel on the public health ispect of alcohol being discussed at some length. Dr Spring Thorpe, the President, said he thought they should iot be satisfied with the mere* reading >f the papers and he would have resolutions brought before the Confess, and if passed sent to the Govern. nent.
