Tbe following letter has beeu banded ua for publication : — " Department of Land and Survey. Welhngton, January 25, 1896. Sir, -Referring to your telegram of tbe 18th inst., as to the metalling of tbe road from Birmingham to Wairika (Kimbolton Road), I bave to state that as the repairs are estimated by Captain Turner to cost not less than £800, the Government have not sufficient funds available at the present time. I may be prepared, however, to give, say, £250 to put the road in as good repair as possible, ihat is to say, to have the worst places metalled and the surface generally attended to. I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedient servant, John McKenzie, Minister of Lands. John Stevens, M.H.8., Fowlers."
