(Per Press Association.! , London, January 22. The Standard says there are unmistakable signs of dissent from, and resentment of, the attempt to renew the Jingoistic spirit in the United States. Washington, January 21. A committee of the Senate, in its report, asserts that the sovereign right of the American people forbids the constructing by Europeans of the canal on tbe Isthmus of Panama. Mr Davis, mover of the motion, is a candidate for the Presidency. It is believed tbat President Cleveland wili refuse to receive the resolution. Mr Oluey, in the course of an interview, said that Mr Chamberlain represented England's aggressiye spirit in seizing territory in America. January 23. President Cleveland says Mr Davis' motion is not opportune, and would cause mischief and prove a misfortune if carried. In the senate Senator Walcoft spoke against the Jingoistic spirit, and demanded a friendly settlement of the dispute. His speech was wildly cheered by tbe occupants of the public galleries, E. Malley, journalist, explains that if Lord Salisbury publishes his statement of the British case ia the Vevezaela dispute it will greatly help amicable settlement. Senator Lodges declares tbat any attempt to rouse, the Jingoes will fail. New York, January 23. It is denied that several of the South American states complain of the new interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine being vassalage.
