Feilding Cycling Club Sports.

The second annnal meeting of the above was held on the Oval yesterday in the presence of about a thousand spectators. The attendance would, no doubt, have been larger but for the threatening state of the weather, and numerous other picnics and attractions. However, the sports were well patronised by outsiders, and |on the whole may be considered a success although, financially not quite what was expected. In several events the racing was very exciting, but both the half-mile events were robbed of all interest through riders falling with tbeir machines. This, also, prevented three or four good riders from taking part in subsequent events. Hunt proved himself to be a splendid rider in the five-mile race, when, although giving a limit of 740 yards, he outpaced all the other riders and won by about 100 yards. Barker, of Christcburcb, who started from behind scratch, is also a fast man, and it was very apparent that he was a favorite with the spectators for when he rode to the front in the mile race he was loudly cheered, and also in the Lady's Bracelet, both these races resulting in grand finishes between he and Hunt. But for an unfortunate accident, Mingins would probably have won the President's Handicap. A. C. Forbes, of Taranaki, had the misfortune to fall in three races. The handicappers, Messrs A. E. Feck and R. Essex, succeeded very well in their difficult task of adjusting the handicaps. The secretary, Mr E. H. Fisher, was very energetic in carrying out the arduous|duties appertaining to the office, and was ably assisted by the treasurer, Mr F. Mackenzie. Mr H". C. Gapper made a very successfulstarter, being assisted by Messrs J. E. Barltrop and M. Beltit as Clerks of the Course. The lap-scorers were Messrs A R. Allan. C. H. Hosking, and C. Bray, junr., who carried out their duties correctly. The judges were Messrs W. A. L. Bailey, G. Kirton, F. Y. Leth bridge, and H. L. Sberwill, the referee being Mr S. Andrew. Messrs G. W. Fowles and A. Richards acted as time-keepers, and Mr G. E. Johnston had charge of the " telegraph" boards. The Feilding Brass Band played a number of selections during the afternoon. AH the events were got off punctually to time. Following are the results : — One Mile Maiden. — First prize, £2 ; second, 15s. W. P. Morphy, 200 yds ... 1 E. W. Barnett, 140 yds ... 2 F. B.
