Sad Drowning Accident.

cPer Press Association] Gisborne, January 15

A sad bathing accident happened at 3.30 this afternoon. Three nurses at the hospital—Misses Sheffield, Brown, and Fisher —went to bathe in the Taruheru river, close to the hospital. Nurse Sheffield got out of her depth, dud being unable to swim was drowned. The others made a brave but futile effort to rescue her. The body has not yet been recovered, is understood Miss Sheffield had friends at the Thames.
