Amateur Athletic Meeting.
(Per Press Association.) Christchcbch, Dec. 28. The seventh annual Athletic Cham* pionship Meeting was held at Lancaster Park this afternoon. Results : — 100 Yards Flat— Robinson 1, Patrick 2, Kingston 3. Time, 10 3-ssec. Half-mile— Lowe (Dunedin) 1, Grierson (Canterbury) 2, Stoart (Wellington) 3. Time, 2min 4sec High Jump — Brown (Canterbury) sft 6iiu ; Bailey and Westenra, sft s*in. The former won the jump off. Creamer (Auckland) won both the mile and three mile walks as he pleased,Maxwell (Dunedin) second. Times, 7mm 10 l-ssec, and 23min 50 3-6 sec. 120 Yards Hurdles— The final was won by Martin (Auckland), in 16 3-ssec, Moir, second ; Roberts, third. 250 Yards Flat— ln the final, Kingston (Dunedin) passed Reeves a few yards from the post and surprised everyone by winning by half a yard. Time, 27 4-5 sec, which was slower than any of the heats. Mile Flat-Bennett (Dunedin) 1, Clarke 2, O'Connor 3. Bennett was never pushed and won by ten yards in 4min 31 3-ssec, only 1 l-ssec below the New Zealand record. The same runner also won the three miles as he liked ; Bell, the present champion, second, and Hawthorne third. Time, 15 30 3-ssec. Quarter-mile Hurdles— Roberts (Auckland) 1, Martin (Auckland) 2, Harley 3. Roberts led all at a great pace and contrived to equal his old record time of 61sec. Quarter-mile Flat— Low (Dunedm) 1, Balch 2, Mowbray 3. Won by six yards. Time, 52sec, equal to the standard. Brown (Canterbury) won throwing the hammer with 89ft 6in. Kingsley and Hunter, the only two entries, tied at 10ft sin for the pole jump and divided, beating the standard 10ft. Rhodes (Wellington) won putting the weight with 35ft 9in, and Cuff (Canterbury) won the long jump with 20ft 7£in, beating the standard by an inch and a half. December 09. The following have been picked to represent New Zealand at the International Athletic Meeting next week : — 100 yds and 220 yds, E. A. Robinson (Canterbury), A. T. Patrick (Wellington), U. G. Peeves (Canterbury) ; 440 yds, W. A. Low (Dunedin), W. Batch (Canterbury) ; half-mile, W. A. Low (Dunedin) ; mile, W. F. Bennett (Dnnedin), C R. Clark (Canterbury) ; three-mile, W. B. Bennett (Dunedin), A- W. Bell (Wellington) ;one and three mile walk, F. H. Creamer (Auckland) ; high jumps, G. T. Brown (Canterbury), H. S. Bailey (Wanganui) ; long jump, J L. Ryan (Hawke's Bay), L. A Cuff (Canterbury) ; pole jump, H. L, Kingsley (Wanganni), R. Hunter (NeK son); 120 yds hurdles, W. H. Martin (Auckland), J. Moir (Canterbury) ; 440 yds hurdles, T. Roberts (Auckland.), W. H. Martin (Auckland) ; throwing hammer, P. T. Brown (Canterbury?, R. Martin (Dunedin) ; putting weight, W. C, Rhodes (Wellington). Kingston (Duodin) would have been chosen for spriui events, hut could not stay.
