He went along Bond street and down Water street, the detective following Kid crying ont " Stop thief." Just as the detective was winded and fell, a man on horseback followed the boy, ■who went into a coal yard. On the detective making a search he found the boy ih a water closet. He had his hands on his breast and begged tbe detective to let him off. When the detective said he could not the boy said he would shoot himself at once. Ho fired a revolver he was clasping in bis bands. The bullet ■ " •■ entered the left breast about the region of the heart. The boy was at once removed but is not expected to live through the night.
