Colyton School Committee.
■ o ■** ■ A meeting of the Colyton School Committee was held last evening. Present Mr O. Pleasants (chairman), T. Shortall, W. H. Power, P. Lynch, and Geo. Ashworth. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts for cleaning school in October and November were read and passed for payment. Proposed by Mr Shortall, seconded by Mr Lynch, That the communication from the Board dated 18th September, 1895, re providing apparatus for physical training be allowed to lie on the table. — Carried. The master reported that it had been necessary to close the school on account of diphtheria appearing in the district. The Committee discussed the matter, and it was proposed by Mr Shortall seconded by Mr Power, that the school having been closed for midsummer holidays a week earlier than usual it be also opened a week earlier (viz) on Monday ] the 20th January, 1896.— Carried. I The Committee discussed the matter of giving prizes to the children, after which it was proposed by Mr Shortall, seconded by Mr Lynch, That every child in the school be presented with a prize, in value according to their standards. — Carried. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr Ash worth, That the annual school picnic be held on New Year's day, at which the prizes shall be presented to the children. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lynch, seconded by Mr Power, That the selection of the ground for picnic be left to Mr Shortall. — Carried, Proposed by Mr Shortall, seconded by Mr Lynch, That the selection of the | prizes be made by the chairman and Mr Fnberg. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Ashworth, seconded by Mr Power, That the refreshments for the picnic be arranged for by Mr Shortall and Mr Friberg. — Carried. Arrangements have been made to hold the annual school picnic on Mr Neilson's property, on the cricket ground, oh New Year's day.
