An Important Bill Case.

(Per Press Association.) M elbourne, This Day. Justice A'Beckett has given judgment against the Crown in a case in which was claimed probate doty on a promissory note fox £55,000 amongst the effects, mentioned in the will of the late Howard Smith. It was a promissory note which was made payable on demand and represented the value of certain shares transferred by testator to his sons. The Crown claimed the note was, liable to duty. The defence was that the note was not inteaded to bo cashed, and was only to enable the father to prevent tbo sons selling the shares.
