He considers tbe best fodder crops to arrow for winter are cape barley, mangolds, and amber cane. The latter is easily grown, the same treatmeet as for cape barley being required. It can be sown broadcast, and may be cut down two or three times for feed. A school committee meeting was held IB the school house, Birmingham, last evening- Present— Or. Anyon (chairman) Messrs Palmer, Bainbridge, Harris and Morton, Secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. For prizes and picnic the head master reported that £9 11s bad been collected up to date. Besolved, That £7 be spent on prizes, the balance to be used for the picnic. An intricate case was, in the Court of Sessioß, drawing its dreary length along before the late Lord-President Inglis. The clerk of court, who had been idly occupied for several hours, got drowsy, and it last went off into a pleasant sleep. The Lord-President desired to consult him, and leaning over the bench, be whispered, " Brown." there was no response. " Brown," repeated the Judge : but still the clerk slumbered. Reaching over and touching the drowsy official on the shoulders, the distinguished lawyer once more said, " Brown." Turning bis bead lazily to one side, Brown remarked "Well, dear, what is it?"
