Meagher made a lengthy statement covering his previous confessions, and claimed he was acting ia accordance with the established precedent in not giving the secret of a client away, though they they were new facts, and considering Deans's case was prejudiced by the course of events, he considered he was serving the true ends of justice in trying to get him off. Finding he had inadvertently given his case away, he had determined to see the matter through.
